ZO has worked with Ralf Poppcke for many years and is immensely grateful for his contributions to our magazine. Ralf put up our first international affiliated website and it was an absolute inspiration. He is a prolific photographer, with a strong body of work encompassing unique perceptions and capturing emotional, passionate, sometimes curious and often rare views. He has the instinct and sensitivity that allows one to “create the picture” while taking it. Objects become stories, angles become scripts — years of recipes for light, shadow, color and black and white mix to form a time-stamped moment — and we all get to see what Ralf sees; avec (with) a lot of imagination, metaphors, desires, dreams and technique included.
Being autodidact at this point in Ralf’s life, has probably allowed him to see clearer pictures, like icing on a multi-tiered cake of broad experiences. Extensive travels, teaching young students German, black and white photo, film development and art have now all added to perfect timing for capturing life through photography.
