Lillian Cumic has been creating plant-based recipes for over two decades. A vegan chef, cooking instructor and cookbook author from Sydney, Australia, she made Sendai, Japan her home for 30 years working in the food industry and refining her craft. While running her dining bar as owner/head chef, she shared her passion by instructing clients, friends and colleagues on the wonders and virtues of vegan cooking.
Shortly after moving to Honolulu in December 2018, Lillian started teaching cooking classes; became host of “Lillian’s Vegan World” on ThinkTech Hawaii sharing her passion of the vegan lifestyle and plant-based diet; started Lillian Vegan LLC and was featured as the cover story in the June 2019 edition of CRAVE magazine. Lillian is a gourmet vegan chef hosting full seven-course vegan dining experiences including a Vegan High Tea which is something to behold.
Lillian is thrilled and humbled to share her 20+ year career as a chef and recipe creator in her first cookbook “Hawaii: A Vegan Paradise,” showcasing Hawaiian food with a vegan twist. She has nearly 200 plant-based recipe videos on her YouTube channel and Lillian Vegan Face Book page.

“Maui Tropical Plantation”
Visitors to the Maui Tropical Plantation can take a tram tour of the property, which includes stops at various agricultural sites, such as fruit orchards, coffee fields, and a coconut grove. Maui is often referred to as “The Valley Isle” because of the large valley that runs between the island’s two volcanic peaks, Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains) and Haleakala (East Maui). The valley, known as the ‘Iao Valley, is a lush and beautiful area that is steeped in Hawaiian history and culture.
The ‘Iao Valley was the site of a major battle in 1790, where King Kamehameha I defeated Maui’s army and consolidated his power over the Hawaiian Islands. Today, the ‘Iao Valley is home to the ‘Iao Needle, a distinctive rock formation that rises 1,200 feet (370 meters) above the valley floor.
In addition to the ‘Iao Valley, Maui is also home to other beautiful valleys, such as the Waihe’e Valley and the Kaupo Valley. These valleys are home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including rare and endangered species that are found only on Maui.
Overall, Maui’s nickname as “The Valley Isle” reflects the island’s unique topography, rich history, and natural beauty, making it a popular destination for visitors from around the world.
Hulu in Maui
Hula is an important part of Hawaiian culture and is performed on Maui, as it is throughout the Hawaiian Islands. Hula is a traditional dance that tells stories of Hawaiian history and mythology, and it is often accompanied by music and chanting.
