Sponsor | CURATOR — кухня

Promise — Drew Tretick

Кухня explores the culture, food, lifestyle and cuisine of Russia, and there is much to explore. Russian cuisine has developed into a multicultural and multiethnic state, where simple dishes have evolved over time under the influence of geographical diversity. Certain regions will obviously provide access to certain ingredients, such as cod, elk, and yagel in the North, and eagle fern, kolomikta fruit, scallops and Kamchatka crabs in the the South. Despite these regional differences, one can always expect to see the essential Russian dishes of soups, porridges, red meats, fish, and salads.

In the Russian culture and lifestyle, great value is placed on the family and the homeland. Religion is also a primary component of Russian life, with Russian Orthodox Christianity being practiced by more than half of the country. The next most practiced faith is Islam at about 10%, followed by Tengrism. Folk tales are a rich and prominent tradition that have deep roots in Slavic myths, notably the Baba Yaga and the Fire Bird. Regarding holidays, some Russians observe Christmas on January 7, which is in accordance with the Julian Calendar used by the Russian Orthodox Church. Russia Day is celebrated on June 12, commemorating the parliament declaring Russian sovereignty from the USSR in 1990.

KAZAN – RUSSIA city info:

Kazan is the largest city and capital of the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia. The city was first founded in the 13th century by the Golden Horde, later becoming the capital of the Khanate of Kazan, and eventually being annexed by Russia when captured by Ivan the Terrible. As centuries passed, Kazan developed to be a significant industrial, cultural, and religious center of Russia. It is particularly renowned for its mix of Tatar and Russian cultures. Today, Kazan brands itself as the “third capital of Russia” and is also known as the “sports capital of Russia,” having hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Wikipedia
